Anderson provided professional services in a Design-Build contract for preparing a Master Plan and Phase I construction documents for the Fargo National Cemetery. Project documents were developed to the level of detail as prescribed in VA Program Guide PG-18-15, Volume D, “Minimum Requirements for A/E Submission.”

 

The new National Cemetery was Master Planned to provide over 5,800 gravesites for the next 20 plus years within 5-acres of undeveloped land. Phase I construction began in 2018 and was completed June of 2019. It provided 3,214 gravesites, including both casket and cremation sites in new burial sections as well as columbaria niches and a memorial wall. Additional Phase I amenities include a flag assembly area, committal service shelter, entrance monument feature and an irrigation pumphouse utilizing stormwater runoff stored within an irrigation pond on the property to irrigate the entire cemetery.

 

The project objectives are as follows:

  1. Master Planning: Develop comprehensive master plans to guide the design and construction process.
  2. Design-Build Services: Provide design-build services to prepare the site for construction, ensuring all necessary steps for demolition, grading, and alterations are completed.
  3. Demolition and Site Preparation: Perform the demolition and removal of existing structures and prepare the site with grading and alterations as required.
  4. Construction of Site Features: Design and construct essential site features, including:
    1. Buildings and landscape walls.
    2. Roads, curbs, and signage.
    3. Pedestrian paving, fencing, and entrance features.
  5. Burial Infrastructure Installation: Install burial components such as:
    1. Pre-placed double-depth concrete crypts.
    2. Columbarium and niche covers.
    3. Oversize vaults, private vaults, and in-ground cremains plots.
    4. Memorial walls.
  6. Utilities and Storm Drainage: Install utilities and a storm drainage system to support site functionality and compliance with regulations.
  7. Landscaping and Irrigation: Implement landscape planting, turf installation, and a fully functional irrigation system to enhance the site’s aesthetics and sustainability.
  8. Site Furnishings and Features: Provide site furnishings and other amenities to improve usability and visitor experience.
  9. Mechanical and Electrical Systems: Install necessary mechanical and electrical systems to support site operations.
  10. Holistic Coordination: Deliver all additional items necessary to ensure the site is fully prepared for construction operations, maintaining quality and adherence to design and regulatory standards.
